Reading the Job Card in the Carpet Cleaning App: Areas, Rooms, Square Feet and Add-Ons
“Carpet cleaning, 123 Maple” is not a work order. It does not say whether it is three bedrooms or the whole house, whether the stairs are included, or whether the customer paid for pet odor treatment in the back bedroom. The job card in the CarpetBossPro tech app answers those questions before the tech knocks on the door.
From the Driveway to the Card
Getting to the house is covered in One-Tap Navigation: Getting the Truck-Mount From One Driveway to the Next. Once the van is parked, the job card tells the tech what they are there to do.
The card has the customer, the address and the navigation button at the top. Below that are the carpet job details, the same details the office sees on the job and on the estimate. Nothing is retyped for the phone. What the customer agreed to is what the tech reads.
The Areas Being Cleaned
The first thing a tech needs to know is where to clean. The job card shows the areas checked off on the job:
- Bedrooms
- Living room
- Family room
- Dining room
- Hallway
- Stairs
- Office
- Basement
- Whole house
Then the other work on the ticket: upholstery, area rug, mattress and tile & grout. A tech who sees “bedrooms, hallway, stairs, upholstery” knows to bring the upholstery tool in on the first trip instead of walking back out to the van halfway through.
Square Feet and Number of Rooms
The card also shows square feet and the number of rooms. These numbers matter in two ways. First, they tell the tech how big the job is so they can pace the day. A four-room job with a hallway is a different morning than a whole house with a finished basement. Second, they settle the most common argument in carpet cleaning: what counts as a room.
If the estimate said four rooms and the customer points at a fifth, the tech can see that four is what was sold. That is not a reason to say no. It is a reason to say, “That one isn't on today's ticket. I can let the office know you'd like it added,” and write a note so the office can add it as a line item at your own price.
Add-Ons on the Card
Add-ons are where money gets lost when they live on paper. The card shows the add-ons on the job:
- Pet odor treatment
- Stain protector
- Deodorizer
When an add-on is on the job, the matching step appears on the carpet checklist too. When it is not, the step stays hidden. That keeps techs from forgetting paid add-ons, and it keeps them from giving away unpaid ones out of habit. The checklist side of this is covered in Add-On Steps That Only Appear When They Were Sold: Pet Odor, Protector and Deodorizer.
Where the Details Come From
None of this is typed on the phone. The details come from three places:
- The estimate. When a customer approves an estimate online, its details carry onto the job. The rooms and add-ons quoted are the rooms and add-ons on the card.
- The home's last job. A new job at a home that has been cleaned before fills in from that home's last job. A yearly whole-house customer shows the same rooms each year unless the office changes them.
- The office. If the customer calls to add the stairs, the office checks the box and the card updates.
That chain is what makes the card trustworthy. Techs stop calling the office to ask what was sold, because the card already says.
Reading the Card Like a Pro
Good techs develop a quick routine with the card. In the van, before getting out:
- Check the areas and the count. Plan the order of rooms.
- Check the add-ons. Load what you need for them.
- Check the carpet type and method, covered in the next guide.
- Read the access notes for pets, gate, parking and hose.
- Read the past notes from the last visit.
Then tap Start and walk through with the customer, matching what is on the card to what is on the floor. Any difference gets settled at the start of the job, not at the end when the invoice is due.
The next guide covers the carpet itself: Carpet Type and Cleaning Method on the Job Card: Knowing Berber From Plush Before You Walk In. For the rest of the tech app, visit the CarpetBossPro carpet cleaning app page.
