Pet Odor, Protector and Deodorizer: Putting Add-Ons on the Carpet Cleaning Quote

Add-ons are where a carpet cleaning ticket grows from a basic clean into a good job. They are also where most of the misunderstandings happen. The customer thought protector was included. The tech thought pet odor treatment was only for the one bedroom. The office thought the deodorizer was free. Putting each add-on on the quote as its own line fixes nearly all of it.

Add-Ons Belong After the Base Price

A whole-house package or a room count sets the base price, as described in Whole-House Carpet Cleaning Packages: When a Flat Price Beats Counting Rooms. Add-ons go on top. Keeping them separate lets the customer pick what they want and lets you see what you are actually selling.

The usual carpet add-ons are:

Price Add-Ons the Way You Apply Them

If the tech treats pet odor one room at a time, price it per room, such as $25 a room. If protector goes on by the square foot, price it that way so a big living room costs more than a small bedroom. CarpetBossPro lets services be priced off the property's measurements, including square feet and number of rooms, so the add-on scales the same way the work does.

Write a short description for each one. “Pet odor treatment — per room, for urine odor in the carpet” tells the customer what it is for. Keep the descriptions to what the service is. Avoid promising that every odor or stain will be gone, because nobody can promise that in every case.

Ask, Don't Assume

Most customers will not ask for add-ons on their own. They do not know what is available. A couple of questions on every call surface the right ones:

The pet question does double duty. It finds pet odor work, and the answer goes in the access notes on the estimate so the tech knows there is a dog behind the door.

Which Rooms Get Which Add-On

An add-on line should say where it goes. “Pet odor treatment, 2 rooms” is fine on the line itself, but the tech needs to know which two. Put the rooms in the note on the line or in the estimate notes: “Pet odor in bedroom 2 and the family room by the slider.”

CarpetBossPro's carpet job details include checkboxes for Pet Odor Treatment, Stain Protector and Deodorizer alongside the rooms. When the estimate is approved, those details carry onto the job. On the tech app, the carpet cleaning checklist shows pet odor treatment only when it is on the job, and stain protector or deodorizer only when they are on the job. The tech does what was sold, and does not skip what was paid for.

Bundling Without Hiding

Some owners like a “premium” package that includes protector and deodorizer. That is fine, as long as the package description lists exactly what is in it. A customer who sees “Premium clean: carpet cleaning, deodorizer and stain protector in all cleaned rooms” knows what they are getting. A customer who sees only “Premium” will ask, or worse, assume.

If you bundle, still check the add-on boxes on the job details so the tech's checklist shows each step.

Add-Ons on Site

Sometimes the tech finds a pet stain nobody mentioned or the customer asks about protector during the walk-through. Adding it on site is fine, as long as the customer agrees to the price before the work is done. The tech explains it, the office adds the line to the job, and the invoice matches. That conversation is covered in When the Carpet Cleaning Price Changes on Site: Telling the Customer Before the Wand Comes Out.

Every Add-On Is a Line the Customer Can See

Separate, clearly named add-ons make bigger tickets feel fair, because the customer chose each piece. They also make the tech's day simpler and the invoice easier to explain. Put each one on your service list, ask about them on every call and check the boxes on every estimate. Sell the Add-Ons Clearly

CarpetBossPro puts pet odor treatment, protector, deodorizer and spot removal on the estimate as their own lines, and on the tech's checklist when they are sold.
