Adding Upholstery, Area Rugs and Mattresses to a Carpet Cleaning Quote
The truck-mount is already running in the driveway and the hoses are already in the house. Cleaning the sofa while you are there costs the customer far less hassle than booking another visit, and it adds real money to the ticket. Upholstery, area rugs and mattresses are some of the easiest sells in carpet cleaning, as long as they are on the quote.
The Next Step After Carpet Add-Ons
Carpet add-ons like pet odor treatment and protector are covered in Pet Odor, Protector and Deodorizer: Putting Add-Ons on the Carpet Cleaning Quote. Upholstery, rugs and mattresses are different. They are separate items with their own prices, and they belong on the estimate as their own lines next to the carpet.
CarpetBossPro builds estimates from your service list, and that list can hold every piece you clean: sofa, loveseat, chair, sectional, area rug, mattress, and anything else you set up.
Pricing Upholstery by the Piece
Most carpet cleaners price upholstery by the piece, because that is how customers think about furniture:
- Sofa, often priced by the number of seat cushions or by length.
- Loveseat, usually a step below a sofa.
- Chair and recliner, priced on their own.
- Sectional, priced by the number of sections or seats, since sizes vary so much.
- Ottomans, dining chairs and cushions, small items that add up.
Use your own numbers. If a three-cushion sofa is $129 and a loveseat is less, that goes on the list. Write a short description that says what the price covers, such as “Sofa, up to 3 seat cushions.”
Ask About Fabric Before You Quote
Upholstery comes in fabrics that need different handling, and some pieces should not be wet-cleaned at all. Before you quote, ask the customer to check the cleaning tag under the cushions or on the frame, or to text you a photo of it. Note what you learn on the estimate.
If the fabric is delicate or unknown, say so on the quote and tell the customer the tech will test and inspect before cleaning. Keep the language plain and avoid promising specific results. A clear note now prevents a hard conversation later.
Area Rugs
Area rugs can be priced by the rug, by size bands or by the square foot. Square-foot pricing is the most common for anything beyond a small runner, because rugs vary so much. CarpetBossPro lets services be priced off measurements, so entering a rug's size can calculate the price. Simple size bands like small, medium and large are easier to quote on the phone.
Decide whether you clean rugs on site or take them back to the shop, and put that in the description. Wool and delicate rugs often deserve a note too. CarpetBossPro's carpet job details include an Area Rug Only carpet type for jobs that are just rugs, plus Wool as a carpet type when that applies.
Mattresses
Mattress cleaning is a smaller add-on that sells well in homes with kids or pets. Price it by size, such as twin, full, queen and king, or as a flat price per mattress. Keep the description about the service itself and avoid health claims about what the cleaning removes.
Check the Boxes on the Job Details
Alongside the line items, the estimate's carpet job details include checkboxes for Upholstery, Area Rug and Mattress. Check the ones that apply and add a note about which pieces: “Upholstery: tan 3-cushion sofa and matching loveseat in the family room. Area rug: 5x8 wool in the dining room.”
When the customer approves the estimate online, it becomes the scheduled job and those details carry over. On the tech app, the carpet cleaning checklist shows the upholstery, area rug or tile step only when it is on the job, so the tech does not leave without cleaning the loveseat, and does not clean one nobody paid for. The tech can also take before/after photos, which the customer can see in the customer app.
Upholstery-Only Quotes
Not every upholstery job comes with carpet. Some customers call just for a sectional. These are often quoted from photos the customer texts to your business number, since you can see the size and the fabric. Build the estimate from the service list the same way and note what the photos showed. More on that in Quoting Carpet Cleaning From Photos Customers Text You.
Remember your minimum. A single chair may fall under it, which is a good reason to ask whether there is anything else they would like done.
One Visit, One Quote, One Invoice
Putting upholstery, rugs and mattresses on the same quote as the carpet means one approval, one visit and one invoice with every piece as its own line. Set up the pieces on your service list, ask about furniture on every call and check the boxes on the job details. To see how these items fit with the rest of quoting, visit the carpet cleaning estimate software page.
Quote the Sofa With the Carpet
CarpetBossPro puts upholstery, area rugs and mattresses on the same estimate as the carpet, and on the tech's checklist when they are sold.
