Quoting Tile and Grout Alongside the Carpet

A house with carpet in the bedrooms almost always has tile somewhere: the kitchen, the entry, the bathrooms, a laundry room. Many carpet cleaning companies already have the equipment to clean it, and homeowners who are happy with their carpets are often glad to have the kitchen floor done on the same visit. The trick is quoting it as clearly as you quote the carpet.

Tile Is Another Line on the Same Estimate

Upholstery, area rugs and mattresses are covered in Adding Upholstery, Area Rugs and Mattresses to a Carpet Cleaning Quote. Tile & grout works the same way: it is its own service on your list, priced the way you do the work, and it sits on the estimate as its own line next to the carpet.

CarpetBossPro builds estimates from your service list, and tile & grout can be one of those services alongside rooms, stairs, upholstery and add-ons.

Price Tile by the Square Foot

Tile areas vary too much for per-room pricing to work well. A small half-bath and a big open kitchen are both one room, but the work is very different. Most companies price tile & grout by the square foot, often with a minimum so a tiny entry still pays for setup.

CarpetBossPro lets services be priced off the property's measurements, so if you enter the tile square footage, the estimate calculates the line. Keep the tile square feet separate from the carpet square feet in your notes, since they are priced differently.

If you sell a grout sealer as a follow-on, set it up as its own service too. Customers can then choose whether to add it.

Questions to Ask Before Quoting Tile

Tile jobs have their own set of questions:

Write what you learn on the estimate. The person who answered the phone knows what the customer said, and the tech needs to know it too.

Setting Expectations on Grout

Grout that has been stained for years may not come back to its original color. Keep the estimate honest. A short line in the description, such as “Cleaning improves most grout; some old stains may remain,” sets the right expectation without sounding negative. The tech's final walk-through is the place to point out anything that did not come out.

The carpet cleaning checklist on the tech app includes a spot to record stains that did not come out and a note for the customer, which helps on tile as well as carpet.

Check the Tile & Grout Box

CarpetBossPro's carpet job details include a Tile & Grout checkbox with the rooms and other items. Check it on the estimate and add a note about which areas: “Tile & grout: kitchen and front entry, about 220 sq ft, porcelain.”

When the estimate is approved online, the estimate becomes the scheduled job and the details carry over. On the tech app, the checklist shows the tile step only when tile is on the job. So the tech knows to bring the tile tool, and knows exactly which areas were quoted.

Scheduling Tile With Carpet

Tile and carpet on the same visit is efficient, but think about the order of work and the time it adds. A whole-house carpet job with a big kitchen of tile may need more of the day than the carpet alone. When you schedule on the dispatch board, allow for it so the next stop on the route is not left waiting.

Tell the customer about dry time and foot traffic for both surfaces during the final walk-through. The tech app checklist ends with a final walk-through with dry time explained, which covers this.

Bundling Tile Into a Whole-House Visit

Tile pairs naturally with a whole-house carpet job. If a customer is getting every carpeted room done, offering the kitchen and entry tile on the same visit is an easy suggestion. Keep the tile as its own line rather than folding it into the package, as covered in Whole-House Carpet Cleaning Packages: When a Flat Price Beats Counting Rooms, so the customer can say yes or no to it separately.

One More Reason to Call You

Offering tile & grout on the same quote gives existing customers another reason to book, and it fills out a visit that might otherwise be small. Set it up on your service list by the square foot, ask about tile on every residential call, and let the estimate carry it to the tech. When the job is complete, the invoice shows the tile as its own line next to the carpet. To see how tile fits with the rest of quoting, visit the carpet cleaning estimate software page.

Quote the Floors, Not Just the Carpet

CarpetBossPro lets you price tile & grout by the square foot on the same estimate as the carpet, and shows it on the tech's checklist when it is sold.
